Antigua Sailing Week 2009

Sojana, the Farr 115 skippered by Peter Holmberg, set a new record for the Yachting World Race Around the Island (Antigua). Sojana completed the course in 4h:37m:5s, bettering Titan's previous record by nearly 30 minutes.

Transpac Race 2009

Philippe Kahn and Mark Christensen, sailing the Hall-rigged Pegasus 50, set a new doublehanded record in the Transpacific Yacht Race. The race begins in Los Angeles and ends in Honolulu, covering 2,225nm. Pegasus covered course in 7d:19h:38m:35s, taking more than two days off the previous record.

Records are meant to be broken, which is what Doug Baker and the crew of Magnitude 80 did when they crossed the finish line of the 1,000-mile San Diego to Puerto Vallarta race, crushing the course record of 3 days, 21 hrs, 55 min, 36 sec by just over six hours (06:08:01). The course's previous record was owned by Pyewacket in the first race SDYC hosted to the destination of Puerto Vallarta in 1998.

Cabo San Lucas Race Record

The first finisher in the race from Newport Beach (CA) to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, was Magnitude 80, Doug Baker's Andrews 80 from Long Beach. Magnitude set a course record of 2 days 10 hours 23 minutes 27 seconds, an average speed of 13.7 knots

New Tahiti Race Record

Magnitude 80 scored a record-breaking hat trick, adding the Tahiti record to their score sheet. The race from Los Angeles to Tahiti covers 3,571nm, which they covered in 11d:10h:13m.18s.

Pacific Cup Doublehanded Record

Pegasus 50 (Open 50) sailed by Philippe Kahn and Richard Clarke set a new doublehanded record in the race from San Francisco to Hawaii. Their elapsed time of 7d:15h:17m:50s chopped a day and a half off the previous record.
